Hello, I’m Jen.

My name is Jennifer Baart and I am passionate about helping animals. I volunteer and foster with a local shelter and rescue. I currently have 1 dog (Rory) and 3 cats (Cloud, Tifa, and Sabrina) and all are rescues. I’ve fostered numerous kittens and a few dogs. I’ve also had pet rats in the past! I have a husband and a 3 year old son. Besides helping animals, I am a graphic and web designer and enjoy dabbling in fine arts. I went to the Art Institute of Philadelphia for my Bachelor’s in Graphic Design and a Web Design and Development Diploma and have been creating designs for over 15 years.

I also love to go surfing and hang out on the beach. I love traveling to places I haven’t been before, seeing the amazing sights they have to offer, and photographing the beauty and just taking in nature. I enjoy reading thrillers, mysteries, and historical fictions. I like trying new things and going on adventures – I’ve gone skydiving, rock climbing, paddleboarding, hiking, snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing, zip lining, archery, and next will be scuba diving! I live and grew up on the coast of New Jersey. My favorite foods consist of pizza and pasta (I loved all the food in Italy!)

Our Story

Speckled Egg Studio got its name from my first rescue dog, Lilo. One of her many nicknames was The Speckled Egg because when she curled up in a ball she look like a little speckled egg.

When I was volunteering at my local animal shelter in 2013, this poor dog came in as a stray looking defeated and shut down. Her body showed she recently had puppies but they were no where to be found. The vet also said that someone must’ve down a home c-section on her because she was sewn up with fishing line. Her poor ears were cropped and her teeth were filed down. She had been through so much and yet she remained the sweetest girl. Through volunteer love, she slowly came back to life and started to play again. I knew I wanted to make her happy for the rest of her life. I was still closing on my house and couldn’t take her but another volunteer fostered her until we moved in and we are so grateful. We spoiled her and she lived a happy life full of love, cushy beds, and so many treats. She passed in 2021 of bladder cancer.
